Daniele De Rossi’s fairy-tale start as Roma’s coach shows no signs of slowing down, as he guided his team to a stunning 4-0 win over Cagliari on Monday night.
The Roma legend, who replaced the unpopular Jose Mourinho in the dugout last month, has won all three of his Serie A games in charge, propelling the Giallorossi to fifth place in the table, only one point behind Atalanta who hold the fourth and final Champions League spot.
Roma took control of the game from the outset, as Lorenzo Pellegrini scored his third goal in three games with a clever flick from a corner kick in the seventh minute.
The dynamic midfielder then played a key role in the second goal, finding Paolo Dybala with a precise pass that the Argentine striker smashed into the net on 23 minutes.
The World Cup winner added his second goal – and Roma’s third – from the penalty spot shortly after the break, following a foul on Henrikh Mkhitaryan by Cagliari defender Luca Ceppitelli.
Roma’s rout was completed by Dean Huijsen, a 19-year-old Dutch centre-back on loan from Juventus, who marked his debut with a powerful header from another corner kick five minutes after coming on as a substitute.
Pellegrini’s impressive form has made him one of the most influential players in Serie A, while Dybala’s brace took his tally to 15 goals in 18 league games this season.

De Rossi, who spent 17 years at Roma as a player, has quickly won over the fans with his attacking and entertaining style of play.
However, he faces a tough challenge next weekend, when the Giallorossi host leaders Inter Milan at the Stadio Olimpico.
