Manchester City took a giant step towards the Champions League quarter-finals with a 3-1 win over FC Copenhagen on Tuesday night, thanks to a masterclass from Kevin De Bruyne.
The Belgian playmaker, who missed most of the season due to injury, was involved in all three goals for the visitors, who dominated the game from start to finish.
De Bruyne opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a low shot from the edge of the box, after a clever one-two with Phil Foden. The hosts equalized against the run of play in the 27th minute, when Magnus Mattsson pounced on a loose ball and fired past Ederson.
But City restored their lead just before half-time, when De Bruyne delivered a perfect cross for Bernardo Silva to head home. The second half was a one-sided affair, as City controlled the possession and created numerous chances.

De Bruyne capped off his brilliant performance in stoppage time, when he cut back from the right and found Foden, who slotted in the third goal. The result puts City in a commanding position ahead of the second leg at the Etihad Stadium, where they will look to seal their place in the last eight.
Pep Guardiola praised De Bruyne’s form as “extraordinary” after the game, saying that he loves to appear in the biggest stages. The City manager also expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, saying that they played with “intensity and quality”.
City will hope to continue their impressive form in the Premier League, where they are unbeaten in 8 games and are second on the table by 54 points just 2 behind league leaders Liverpool. They will face Chelsea on Sunday, before hosting Copenhagen on Wednesday.
