Inter Milan are on the verge of clinching their first Serie A title in 11 years after Juventus slumped to a surprise 1-0 defeat at home to Udinese on Monday.
Juventus, who have won the last nine league titles, saw their hopes of catching Inter fade away as Lautaro Giannetti scored the only goal of the match in the 25th minute. The Argentine defender, who joined Udinese last month, netted his first goal for the club and helped them secure their third league victory of the season.
Udinese, who are three points clear of the relegation zone, inflicted Juve’s second consecutive loss after they lost 1-0 to Inter last weekend.
“It’s a difficult moment for us,” admitted Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri.
“We have to regain our concentration because we still have to fight for a Champions League spot.”
Juve, who were without injured striker Dusan Vlahovic, failed to create any clear chances and were jeered by their own fans at the Allianz Stadium in Turin. Their best opportunity came around the 60th minute when Arkadiusz Milik headed in from a corner, but the goal was disallowed for Federico Chiesa’s cross going out of play.

Inter, who beat Roma 4-2 on Saturday, have a seven-point lead and a game in hand over Juve at the top of the table. They face a challenging schedule, including a Champions League last 16 tie against Atletico Madrid and a postponed match against Atalanta, in the next few weeks.
Juve, on the other hand, have to watch out for AC Milan, who are just one point behind them in third place after a 1-0 win over Napoli on Sunday night.
