Borussia Dortmund are through to 2023/24 Champions League quarterfinals after a 3-1 aggregate victory over PSV Eindhoven.
The German giants were denied victory at the death in Netherlands when a controversial penalty was granted to PSV Eindhoven, and the spot kick was scored to peg back the Bundesliga side to a 1-1 draw at the blast of the final whistle.
Hosting the second leg in Germany, Borussia Dortmund needed victory to book their place in the next round of the competition.
It was an impressive first-half performance by the home side. Three minutes into the game, they had gone into the lead through Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho
A costly defensive error saw PSV Eindhoven pay dearly by conceding the cheap goal. Ian Maatsen’s ball to Fulkrug was knocked down but wasn’t cleared. Brandt latched on the forlorn pass and threaded it to Sancho who drilled a low shot into the net.

Dortmund maintained their ascendant run after the lead and created numerous chances but failed to add to the score tally before the break.
The second half took an entirely different shape as PSV Eindhoven began to build their presence in the game with a formidable effort.
In the 53rd minute, the Dutch giants came close leveling the score but Lozano’s effort rattled against the woodwork and slipped off for a goal kick.
Bakayoko also came close to netting the equaliser but Terze was equal to the task gathering his effort to keep Borussia Dortmund in the lead.
Against the run of play, Borussia Dortmund nearly killed the game with their second goal but Fulkrug’s strike was disallowed after VAR check.
PSG Eindhoven continued threatening for an equaliser but were dealt a final blow when Marco Reus scored in stoppage-time to seal the win.
The game ended with the Bundesliga outfit winning 3-1 on aggregate to book their ticket for the last 8 of the competition.
