Kelechi Iheanacho, the Super Eagles striker, has expressed his regret to Nigerian fans after losing to Cote d’Ivoire in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final, according to lcsoccershub.
Nigeria had a remarkable run at the AFCON in Ivory Coast. They began with a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea, but they improved in their next game.
The Super Eagles then secured victories over Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau in their other group matches. They also defeated Cameroon, Angola, and South Africa in the knockout stages to reach the final against the host nation.
However, they could not overcome the Elephants, who staged a comeback to win the trophy. Kelechi Iheanacho, who plays for Leicester City, had a limited role in the tournament and only made his first appearance in the semi-final against South Africa. He also came on in the second half of the final against Cote d’Ivoire, but he could not change the outcome.
