Jordan Henderson didn’t last long in Saudi Arabia. He and Al-Ettifaq decided to end their contract after only six months. The midfielder will soon fly back to England and look for a new club.
But he may not have to search for long. Ajax, the Dutch powerhouse, are keen to sign him on a permanent basis. They are in advanced talks with Henderson and hope to seal the deal this week, according to Sky Sports News.
Henderson joined Al-Ettifaq from Liverpool in July 2023, in a surprise move that shocked many fans. He had been the captain of the Reds for eight years, leading them to glory in the Premier League and Champions League.
He travelled with Liverpool for their training camp in Germany but was not involved in their opening game of pre-season against Karlsruher on 19 July after a deal was agreed in principle between them and Al-Ettifaq.

Henderson will reunite with his former Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard, who is the manager of the Saudi Pro League side. The pair were team-mates at the Anfield club before Gerrard left in 2015.
Henderson’s departure from Al-Ettifaq is one of the most dramatic transfers in recent history. He will hope to revive his career at Ajax, who are known for their attractive and attacking football.
