After a 2-0 opening victory over Real Salt Lake, Inter Miami nearly stumbled to a defeat against LA Galaxy.
The MLS giants started the game on the front foot, wielding absolute dominance over proceedings.
They would have taken the lead early in the game when Inter Miami conceded a penalty but Riqui Puig failed to beat Drake Callender, who saved the strike to keep the Herons in the game.
In the second half, the star-studded, the Florida-based outfit were still cowering under the domineering sail of the hosts but it was still a dead end in Inter Miami’s half.
After a grueling encounter, LA Galaxy finally broke the deadlock in the 75th minute with Dejan Jovelic scoring to give the hosts the lead.
Despite taking the lead, the MLS champions still topped proceedings going forward but the Herons were not ready to give in easily.
In the second minute of stoppage time, Lionel Messi came up clutch for Inter Miami, scoring to peg back LA Galaxy to a dramatic 1-1 draw.
The Argentine’s former Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba provided the assist that led to the equaliser.

Messi has now made two goal contributions for inter Miami in their first two games in the 2024/25 MLS season, having bagged an assist in the 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake.
Inter Miami failed to qualify for MLS playoffs last season and will be hoping to make amends this season with the squad boasting of the most experienced new additions so far.
