Bayern Munich missed out on a chance to close up on Bayer Leverkusen on the Bundesliga top as they stumble to a shock home defeat to Werder Bremen, LCSoccerHub Reports.
The Bavarians needed a win against Bremen to move 4 points close of Bayern Leverkusen, who came back twice against RB Leipzig to salvage a dramatic 2-3 win at the Red Bull Arena.
Having secured a resounding 3-0 victory over the visitors in the reverse fixture early in the season, Bayern Munich went into the game as clear favorites to carry the day.
They were unbeaten in their last 32 competitive games against the visitors, winning 28, and drawing 4. Meanwhile, Werder Bremen faced an uphill task weathering the odds at Allianz Arena.
They had managed just a win in their last 10 matches, and were yet to secure an away win in Bundesliga this season. Compounding their woes, they headed into the game against the star-studded hosts with their key players absent.
Bayern Munich got off to a brilliant start as the game kicked off. Werder Bremen fell back in their numbers as Bayern Munich mounted pressure. However, the visitors got the first clear chance of the game in the 9th minute but could not make it count.

In the 25th minute, Werder Bremen silenced a roaring home fans at Allianz Arena. Weiser found Nimjah, who beat the offside trap and came one-on-one with Manuel Neuer before beating the German with a low shot underneath which rolled into the net. Unluckily for the away side, the goal was chalked off after VAR check.
Bayern Munich continued to hold sway over the game but it was a frustrating game for the home side as they managed limited touches in Werder Bremen’s half and struggled to break through the opponent’s compact defense. The first half ended barren.
Bayern Munich started the second half still on a brighter note. They committed more bodies forward trying to find a breakthrough but left exploitable gaps at the defense.
In the 59th minute, Weiser picked a cross-field pass from Fried and paced pass Alphonso Davies at the byline before switching to his left foot. He then rifled a thunderbolt pass a helpless Manuel Neuer to give Bremen the lead.
After the goal, Werder Bremen dropped deeper as Bayern Munich increased pressure in search of an equaliser.
Inside Werder Bremen’s final third, it was still a deadlock for the hosts. Despite the intense pressure, Werder Bremen held on to grab their first away win in Bundesliga against an unlikely opponent.
