Bayer Leverkusen are showing no sign of slowing down on the 2023/24 Bundesliga title race, LCSoccerHub Reports.
It was a cracker at the Red Bull Arena Leipzig as Bayer Leverkusen tested their bid for the 2023/24 Bundesliga title against the depths of the Red Bulls.
The Marco Rose-led Leipzig were broken at home by Eintracht Frankfurt in their last game. Eintracht Frankfurt dealt a big blow to the Red Bulls, scurrying to narrow 1-0 win to end the club’s 12-match unbeaten home run in the Bundesliga.
Rose needed to steer the team back to winning ways but it was another deadlock as they clashed against Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen winning machine.
The Bundesliga leaders went into the game yet to taste a defeat in 26 competitive matches. They have drawn only 3 Bundesliga matches and escaped with 14 victories.
It was Bayer Leverkusen’s best run in the first half of the Bundesliga season, garnering 45 points from a possible 51. However, going against the Red Bulls at the Red Bull Arena was a tough test for the Black and Reds.
RB Leipzig have been stumbling blocks and heavy grindstones for Bundesliga leaders in their last five games. They have not lost a league match to a table-topper in their last five games, winning two and drawing three.
As expected, it was a thriller as two sides locked horns in what happened to be a match-of-the-day clash in Bundesliga. Bayer Leverkusen suffered an early scare as Xavi Simon produced a brilliant finish just 7 minutes into the game to race Leipzig into the lead.
Leverkusen struggled to mount a response with no breakthrough as the home side took the lead into the break.
Bayer Leverkusen roared into the second half with a quickfire response. Tella nailed home the equaliser just two minutes into the second half but they could not hold on for long.
In the 56th minute, Openda fired the home side into the lead again but the visitors mounted another quick response with Tah’s 63rd-minute goal. With the scores leveled at 2-2, the game was poised for a nervy finish.
It almost ended squares as both sides failed to find the back of the net again going forward. At the death, the Bundesliga title hopefuls produced a late-stunner. A stoppage-time strike by Hincapie did the magic.
With just extra time left, Hincapie’s goal sealed a dramatic 2-3 victory for Bayer Leverkusen with RB Leipzig suffering a second consecutive Bundesliga defeat at home.
Leverkusen have now opened a 7-point gap on top of the Bundesliga table over Bayern Munich who have two outstanding games.
