Cameroon survived a scary fightback by Gambia to secure their first 2023 AFCON victory and qualify for the next round of the tournament, LCSoccerHub Reports.
It was a must-win game for the Indomitable Lions with their round 16 hopes on the frays following a winless two-match run in the group.
Gambia were also searching for their first victory in the group and were doomed to exit the competition at the group stages. However, the dead rubber clash against Cameroon was essential for the Gambians as they hoped to exit the continental showpiece with pride.
The match kicked off with Cameroon dominating proceedings and forcing Gambia back to their half with a series of offensives
The Lions fired 13 shots with 3 on target. Despite struggling to match Cameroon’s dominant display, Gambia were deadly on the attack. They recorded 17 shots with 7 on target.
It ended squares at the break with both sides unable to find the back of the net.

It was a rain of goals in the second half after the first-half deadlock as the two teams battled for victory. Ekambi first fired Cameroon into the lead in the 56th minute but Gambia fought back through Jallow in the 72nd minute.
In the 85th minute, Colley put Gambia in front but the lead was canceled two minutes later with Gomez’s own goal.

In the first minute of stoppage time, Wooh came up clutch for Cameroon, firing the Lions into the lead to make it 3-2. Before the blast of the final whistle, Gambia got their way back to the game, scoring to make it 3-3 but the goal was canceled after review.
Cameroon ran out lucky winners after the final whistle to join Senegal from the group to the knockout of the tournament.
