Egypt have confirmed update on Mo Salah’s injury blow with the Liverpool forward set to miss some AFCON matches for the Pharaohs, LCSoccerHub Reports.
It was another disappointing AFCON campaign for the seven-time winners of the competition against the Black Stars of Ghana.
Both sides got off to an underwhelming start to their AFCON campaign and needed nothing less from victory in the six-pointer Group B fixture.
Ghana took the lead twice in the game but were pegged back twice as well by the Pharaohs as the two sides share spoils in the four-goal thriller.
Former Ajax and West Ham star Mohammed Kudus bagged a brace for the Black Stars but the Pharaohs fought their way back to salvage a draw.
It was Ghana’s first point in the tournament, having suffered a shock opening defeat to tournament dark horses Cape Verde.
With the two sides contented after the clash, Egypt suffered a heavier blow missing their star striker and Liverpool legend Mo Salah to injury.
Salary managed a little over 40 minutes in the game and had to limp off the field due to an apparent harmstring issue.
There have been speculations on the state of Salah’s injury with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp concerned on the likelihood of missing the five-star winger to a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Now, a report by Egypt medical team, shared by Fabrizio Romano, has revealed Salah will miss two AFCON matches for the Pharaohs but will not tarry on the sidelines.
The report reads;
“Egyptian Football Federation announces the injury of Mohamed Salah with a strain in the harmstring muscle. It will cost him to miss two matches in the Africa Cup of Nations against Cape Verde and in the round of 16 in case of qualification.”
Salah started and scored in Egypt’s AFCON opener against Mozambique. The former Chelsea star will be hoping to return to action soon with the 2021 AFCON runners-up.
