Xabi Alonso, the former Liverpool star, has admitted that he has a list of dream clubs that he would like to manage in the future. One of them is Liverpool, who are looking for a new boss after Jurgen Klopp announced his departure at the end of the season.
Alonso is currently in charge of Bayer Leverkusen, where he has impressed with his style of play and results. He has led the German side to the top of the Bundesliga, five points ahead of Bayern Munich, after a 3-0 win at the weekend.
The Spaniard, who played for Liverpool from 2004 to 2009, has revealed that he had a plan when he joined Leverkusen in October 2022. He told his agent that if things went well, he would aim for bigger clubs, such as Liverpool, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, or Manchester City.
This was confirmed by Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, who spoke to the BBC’s Football News Show. Balague said that Alonso had a secret ambition to return to Liverpool as a manager, but he also had other options in mind.
