Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to beat Brentford 3-2 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday night, moving up to fourth place in the Premier League. The Spurs scored three goals in the second half, while the Bees netted twice in a frantic finale.
Brentford took a surprise lead in the 15th minute, when Neal Maupay pounced on a loose ball and slotted it past Guglielmo Vicario. Tottenham looked sluggish and uninspired in the first half, failing to create any clear chances and being booed off by their own fans.
However, the hosts turned the game around after the break, with three quick-fire goals from Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson, and Richarlison. Udogie equalized in the 48th minute, heading in a cross from Nunez. Johnson put Tottenham ahead in the 49th minute, finishing a swift counter-attack with a low shot. Richarlison made it 3-1 in the 56th minute, scoring from close range after a scramble in the box.
Brentford did not give up and pulled one back in the 67th minute, when Ivan Toney scored a superb solo goal, dribbling past three defenders and firing past Vicario. The visitors pushed for an equalizer and had a couple of chances, but Vicario made some crucial saves to deny them.
Tottenham held on to secure a vital win, which lifted them above Aston Villa on goals scored with both clubs on 43 points from 22 games, three points behind third-placed Manchester City, who have a game in hand. Brentford, meanwhile, remained in 14th place, four points above the relegation zone.
