Fulham manager Marco Silva has expressed his admiration for his Nigerian players Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey, who scored the goals that secured a historic 2-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday, Laughtercourt reports.
The two attackers had just returned from representing Nigeria in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final against Cote d’Ivoire. Silva trusted them to start against United, and they rewarded his faith with decisive strikes.
Bassey opened the scoring in the 65th minute with his first goal for the club since joining from Ajax last summer. Iwobi sealed the victory in stoppage time with a superb finish past goalkeeper Onana.
Silva said that Iwobi and Bassey are key players for his side and the way he wants to play. He also said that he has nothing against Jurgen Klopp or Liverpool, and he only wants to win his first trophy in England.

“It’s nothing against Jurgen Klopp or Liverpool to have revenge. It’s a challenge for us to say ‘we have the possibility to write history, winning a trophy’. That is our biggest motivation. That is my motivation,” he said.
“They were decisive in terms of the goal. It just shows how they are important for us in the way I want to play, in our way. It’s really nice to see both scoring goals and helping us to win.”
Fulham, with the memorable win, are guaranteed to stay 12th on the Premier League table this weekend, regardless of results from other venues.
