Ruben Diaz has joined his teammate Erling Haaland to blast Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold for his jibe on Manchester City ahead of the crunch Premier League tie between the two clubs.
Before the potential title-deciding clash between Liverpool and Manchester City which comes up on Sunday, March 10, Liverpool right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is nursing injury on the sidelines, stoked the fires after he said Liverpool’s trophy win means more than Manchester City’s.
Speaking to FourFourTwo Magazine ahead of the crucial encounter between the two clubs, Alexander-Arnold described Manchester City as a machine that is built to win.
“You’re up against a machine that’s built to win – that’s the simplest way to describe City and their organisation,” the Liverpool vice-captain said.
He added that although Manchester City have been flushed with success in recent years, winning more trophies than Liverpool, Liverpool’s trophy wins will mean more to them and the fans than City’s due to the latter’s financial advantage.
“Looking back on this era, although they’ve won more titles than us and have probably been more successful, our trophies will mean more to us and our fanbase because of the situations at both clubs, financially. How both clubs have built their teams and the manner in which we’ve done it probably means more to our fans,” he added.
Reacting to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s subtle dig, Manchester City star Erling Haaland was the first to blast the English right-back. Speaking on Sky Sport, Erling Haaland said, he is happy to have won the treble with Manchester City in his first year with the club – a feeling Trent Alexander-Arnold does not know.
“If he wants to say that, OK,” Haaland said. “I’ve been here one year and I won the treble and it was quite a nice feeling. I don’t think he knows this feeling. That’s what I felt last season, it was quite nice,” Haaland said.
“We’ve won a lot in this club, especially last year with the Treble. I think it’s pretty certain between us, between our fans, how much it meant to all of us.
“At the end of the day, you can only have certain emotions if you actually win stuff. A Treble is a feeling you can only know how it feels when you actually do it.

According to him, an outsider like Trent Alexander-Arnold cannot feel the impulses and the adrenaline that runs through one’s veins when he wins a treble. He added they knew what the victory last season meant to the players and the fans.
“I think in a club like Man City and my previous club (Benfica) our greatness will be shown in a way that these comments don’t affect us. We know what we’ve done, we know what we’ve conquered, we know what we’re going for in what’s to come. We don’t do it for anyone else, we do it for ourselves.
Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal are locked in a three-horse title race this season with Liverpool managing just a point clear on top of the table. The game against Manchester City is a high-stake clash that could determine who clinch the Premier League title at the end of the season.
