Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has expressed his frustration over receiving a two-match ban for dissent, labeling the decision as “ridiculous” and suggesting that he is being unfairly targeted as a newer player in LaLiga.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) imposed the suspension on the 20-year-old following an incident in Real’s recent 2-2 league draw with Valencia. Bellingham was shown a red card and subsequently criticized referee Jesus Gil Manzano’s decision to end the match just as he scored what could have been the winning goal in added time.
“I didn’t think I said anything very offensive towards him,” Bellingham remarked in an interview with Movistar following Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with RB Leipzig in the Champions League last-16 second leg tie.
The midfielder’s ban has sparked controversy, with many questioning the severity of the punishment for what they perceive as a minor infraction. Bellingham’s comments shed light on the challenges faced by young players navigating the disciplinary landscape of professional football.
