Mauricio Pochettino has snubbed Thiago Silva for Chelsea’s FA Cup clash against Aston Villa, after the defender’s wife called for his sacking on social media.
The Chelsea manager was not impressed by Isabelle Silva’s tweet, which said that it was time to change and that Pochettino was running out of time. She later apologized and said that she was just passionate and wanted a winning team.
Pochettino said that he had spoken to Thiago Silva and that they had a good relationship, but he decided to leave him out of the starting line-up for the cup tie. He opted for Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi at the heart of the defence, as his team thrashed Aston Villa 3:0 to advance into the next round. This seems to be a response from his team after the 4-2 loss to Wolves.
The defeat to Wolves left Chelsea 11th in the Premier League, 15 points behind the top four. Pochettino is under pressure to turn things around, but he said that he trusted his players more than ever and that he was still excited by the project.
