Napoli have not given up on their pursuit of Udinese defender Nehuen Perez, who is their top target to strengthen their backline.
The Partenopei suffered a blow in the Supercoppa Italiana, losing to Inter, and are keen to bounce back in the second half of the season. They have already been busy in the January transfer window, bringing in Cyril Ngonge, Pasquale Mazzocchi and Hamed Junior Traore. But club president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to add two more players to Walter Mazzarri’s squad.

Napoli need a new midfielder, with Orel Mangala from Nottingham Forest on their radar, and a new defender, with Perez as their first choice. The 23-year-old Argentinian has impressed at Udinese, but has a €20m price tag that Napoli are reluctant to match. They have offered €15m and are hoping to negotiate a deal in the next few days.
Perez is not the only defender that Napoli are considering, as they have also shown interest in Arthur Theate from Rennes. But for now, they are focusing on the Udinese star, who could be on his way to Naples soon.
