Manchester United snatched a dramatic 4-3 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, thanks to a stunning goal by Kobbie Mainoo in the seventh minute of added time.

The 18-year-old midfielder, who who has been a break-out player for the Red Devils this season, curled a brilliant shot into the top corner from outside the box, after Wolves had equalised in the fifth minute of stoppage time through Pedro Neto.

United had taken a 2-0 lead in the first half, with Marcus Rashford scoring on his return from injury in the fifth minute, and Rasmus Hojlund doubling the advantage in the 22nd minute with a deflected shot.

Wolves fought back in the second half, and reduced the deficit in the 71st minute, when Pablo Sarabia converted a penalty after a foul by Diogo Dalot on Pablo Sarabia.

Scott McTominay restored United’s two-goal cushion in the 75th minute, heading in a cross from Bruno Fernandes, but Wolves did not give up.

Max Kilman made it 3-2 in the 85th minute, tapping in a rebound after Andre Onana had saved a shot by Craig Dawson, and Neto levelled the score in the dying moments, slotting in a pass from Cunha.

However, Mainoo had the final say, scoring his first Premier League goal in spectacular fashion, and sending the United fans into ecstasy.

The win lifted United to seventh place in the table, eight points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, while Wolves remained 11th, seven points behind United and two points behind tenth-placed Chelsea.

The match was a thrilling and tense affair, with both teams having chances to score more goals, and hitting the woodwork twice each.

United manager Erik ten Hag praised Mainoo’s impact, and said he was proud of his team’s performance.

“He is a special talent, and he showed it today. He has a great future ahead of him. I am very happy for him and for the team. We played very well, especially in the first half, and we deserved to win,” he said.

Wolves boss Bruno Lage rued his team’s luck, and said they did not deserve to lose.

“It is very hard to take. We played with courage, with passion, with quality. We scored three goals, we hit the post twice, we had more shots than them. We did everything to win, but we lost in the last minute. It is very frustrating,” he said.
