Liverpool showed no mercy to Chelsea as they thrashed them 4-1 at Anfield on Wednesday night, extending their lead at the top of the Premier League to 17 points. The Reds scored four goals from four different scorers, while the Blues only managed a consolation goal from Christopher Nkunku.
The hosts dominated the game from the start, creating numerous chances and putting Chelsea under constant pressure. Diogo Jota opened the scoring in the 12th minute, heading in a cross from Conor Bradley, who doubled the lead in the 28th minute with a stunning volley from the edge of the box.
Chelsea had no answer to Liverpool’s intensity and creativity, and were lucky to go into the break only two goals down. The second half was more of the same, as Liverpool continued to pile on the misery for the visitors. Luis Diaz made it 3-0 in the 78th minute, tapping in a rebound from a Nunez shot, and Dominik Szoboszlai added the fourth in the 82nd minute, curling a free kick into the top corner.
Chelsea finally got on the scoresheet in the 70th minute, when Nkunku scored a brilliant solo goal, dribbling past three defenders and slotting the ball past Alisson. However, it was too little, too late for the Londoners, who suffered their ninth defeat of the season and remained in 10th place.
