Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly eyeing a sensational return to Manchester United as manager, LCSoccerHub Reports
The Portuguese tactician was recently sacked by AS Roma following a less-than-stellar run with the club this season.
An egg-faced Mourinho left Roma training ground serenaded by Roma fans, who expressed their solidarity with the football veteran despite the decision of the club’s hierarchy to part ways with the revered manager.
Days after exiting Roma, the former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager was spotted in Spain with reports he could be in for a second stint with a La Liga club as manager after his spell with Real Madrid.
Now, according to reports from Daily Mail, Jose Mourinho is eyeing what could be a sensational and striking return to Manchester United as new manager.
Sources close to the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League winner says he sees his previous stint with Manchester United as an ‘unfinished business’ and would welcome an opportunity to return to the dugout at Old Trafford.
‘His ambition is to return to United,’ a friend explained. ‘He feels like he has unfinished business thereafter how it ended last time and he had made it his mission to go back.’
The report also adds Mourinho is eager to work with Manchester United’s new co-owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe who are keen on overturning the club’s misfortunes.
Mourinho joined Manchester United as manager in 2016, replacing Dutch gaffer Louis Van Gaal.
In his first season with the club, he won the Europa League, Carabao Cup, and Community Shield for the Red Devils.
It was a promising start at Old Trafford but a less-than-stellar run saw United finished a distant 19 points from Manchester City despite coming up second on the Premier League table.
Initially joining Man United on a three-year contract, Mourinho extended his deal until 2021 but was sacked after a series of dismal domestic performances.
Jose Mourinho’s projected return to Manchester United would be sensational but is not likely to happen as current United manager Erik ten Hag has the backing of the club’s hierarchy despite an underwhelming campaign this season.
