It was a thriller as La Liga title hopefuls Real Madrid battled cross-city rivals Atletico Madrid in the semifinal of the Spanish Super Cup, LCSoccerHub Reports.
French attacker Antoine Griezmann beat the defeat to record another milestone in his career as he recorded his 174th strike for Atletico Madrid.
Meanwhile, it was a heated and engaging encounter between both sides. Griezman’s landmark goal rounded up an incredible scoring spree in the first half. Four goals were hauled in, two apiece before the break.
Atletico Madrid went in front just six minutes into the game with Mario Hermoso’s header, thanks to an assist by Griezmann.
14 minutes after Mario Hermoso’s header, Anthony Rudiger came to Real Madrid’s rescue, also scoring a header to level terms.

In the 27th minute, Ferland Mendy raced Real Madrid into the lead but Atletico Madrid clawed their charges back into the game to even the scores with Antoine Griezmann’s landmark goal in the 37th minute.
The game was poised for a thrilling finish as both sides went into the break with the score tied at 2-2.
A dragging second half saw both sides unable to find the back of the net before an own goal from Anthony Rudiger saw Atletico Madrid take the lead again.
Diego Someone was close to what would have been a statement win over Real Madrid before Carvajal spoiled the party with an 85th-minute strike that tied the scores again.
At the regulation time, it ended 3-3 with both sides heading into extra time.
Real Madrid were the better side in extra time but the game was nearly dragged to penalty shootouts before Savic’s own goal in the 116th minute and Brahima Diaz’s 122nd-minute strike sealed a 5-3 win for Real Madrid.
Los Blancos have now booked a place in the Spanish Super Cup final and will face the winner between Barcelona and Osasuna in the final.
