Ramsus Holjund and Marcus Rashford strike as Manchester United and Tottenham settled for a dramatic 2-2 draw at Old Trafford in the Premier League, LCSoccerHub Reports.
United manager Erik ten Hag went into the game with a lot at stake. An inconsistent domestic and European run had piled up the pressure on the Dutch.
The Red Devils lost the early reverse fixture to the high-flying Ange Postecoglou side at Tottenham Hotspur stadium and had hoped to harvest a pound of flesh by dispatching the visitors at the Theatre of Dreams.
It was a tricky tie. The two sides have recorded no single draw in their last last 17 meetings with Manchester United coming out top with 13 wins.
Meanwhile, it has been over three decades since Tottenham completed a league double against Manchester United, hence Ange Postecoglou faced a tough task rewriting the narrative against a victory-hungry Manchester United side.
The game took on a frantic pace as both sides hit the ground running with pacey attacks and speedy offensives.
United impressed in the early minutes, enjoying a good spell of possession and trying to get behind the visitors’ backline. Just three minutes into the game, Rasmus Hojlund did the magic.
Andre Onana set the trail for the goal. Onana quickly fed Garnacho with the ball, who then picked on Fernandes.
Fernandez wasted no time teeing up Marcus Rashford. Rashford attempted a cut-in into the box but had his ball intercepted by Tottenham right-back Destiny Udogie.
Udogie’s interception fell on a platter for Rasmus Hojlund, who comfortably fired a thunderbolt into the roof of the net to give Manchester United the lead.
Tottenham Hotspur mounted a formidable and quick response after trailing by a lone goal but had to wait for the equaliser in the 19th minute. Richarlison nailed home the equaliser for the visitors heading home Pedro Porro’s cornerkick into the far corner to make it 1-1.
Manchester United picked up momentum again after the equaliser and were positioned to retake the lead. After a series of counters, the Red Devils raced into the lead again in the 40th minute. Rashford fired a low shot into the bottom corner after a good link-up play with Ramsus Holjund to make it 2-1.
The home side held on to the 2-1 lead at the break despite heavy pressure from a spirited Tottenham side.
In the second half, Tottenham Hotspur dominated the game from the start. Lording the midfield over the hosts, it was not long before the Lilywhites equalised again. Cristian Romero split open Manchester United’s midfield with a perfect throughball to Skipp who located loan signing from RB Leipzig Timo Werner on the left. Werner floored Man United defender Evans and found Bentacur who fired a thunderbolt pass Andre Onana to make it 2-2.
The game went end-to-end with fast-paced offensives and counter-offensives but no real chance was created again with both sides settling for a 2-2 draw after the final whistle.
