Barcelona put Getafe to rout in LaLiga matchday 26 clash to retain their faint hopes of defending the LaLiga title, LCSoccerHub Reports.
The LaLiga champions started the game on the front foot dominating proceedings but Getafe responded with an equal attacking flair, keeping off the blocks and maintaining a high line.
It wasn’t long before Barcelona exploited their high line to race into the lead. Jules Kounde found Raphinha in the 20th minute, who timed his run, beat the offside trap, and broke through Getafe’s high line to race the home side into the lead.
The former Leeds United player easily beat Getafe goalkeeper, David Soria, firing into the bottom-left corner to put the Catalans in front.
The goal was enough to take Barcelona into the break with a lead as Getafe struggled to register their presence in the game.
In the 53rd minute, Joao Felix scored a tap-in from Christensen’s cross to hand the Catalans a breathing space after the away side nearly bagged an equaliser in the 50th with Milla hitting the post.
Eight minutes after Joao Felix’s goal, Frenkie de Jong put the game beyond the visitors. Raphinha assisted the Dutch for the goal as he rounded Soria and laid it on a platter for the former Ajax star to side-foot into the back of the net.
It was a game-over at this point for Getafe, who had earlier come close to clawing their charges into the game, only to go down by three goals eight minutes later.
In the first minute of stoppage time, Getafe’s comeback hopes was dealt the final blow as they were punished again for their high line.
De Jong had found Vitor Roque, who had overran the high line to fire on Soria. Soria made a punching save but the rebound fell for Fermin Lopez who slotted it home to make it 4-0.
It ended 4-0 with the Catalans securing a deserved victory to climb up second on the table and close the gap on Real Madrid to five points.
