Phil Foden was the star of the show as he scored a hat-trick to help Manchester City overcome a resilient Brentford side and close the gap on Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.
The 21-year-old midfielder, who has been in sensational form this season, showed his class and composure as he netted three goals in a 3-1 win at the Brentford Community Stadium on Monday night.
Brentford had taken a surprise lead in the 21st minute when Neal Maupay pounced on a loose ball and fired past Ederson. The hosts defended bravely and frustrated City’s attack for the rest of the first half.
However, Foden changed the game in the 45th minute when he received a lost pass from Kevin De Bruyne and curled a superb shot into the top corner. It was a crucial equalizer that gave City a boost before the break.
