Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed update on injury worries involving Marcus Rashford and Johnny Evans during Man City match.
Marcus Rashford and Johnny Evans were prematurely subbed off in the match against Manchester City with concerns the club may likely grapple with a double injury blow involving the two players.
However, Erik ten Hag has allayed fears of an injury blow as he revealed the reason he subbed off the two players.
Speaking after the game, the former Ajax boss revealed both Rashford and Evans were injury risks in the game against Manchester City.
According to him, the two players were not perfectly fit for the match but had to be used due to the dearth of options on their roles. However, he added they had to be subbed off as a precautionary measure to prevent aggravation of the problems.
”Rashy and Evans were not perfectly fit for the game. We were managing their fitness. So, we had to sub them off early.
”They are still under the watch of the club’s medical officers but are not injured. We hope to have them back for the next game fully fit,” Erik ten Hag says.
Manchester United suffered a 3-1 defeat in the hands of their dominant neighbors. Three goals, all scored in the second half, turned the game on its head.
United had taken the lead in the first half through Marcus Rashford’s rocket strike from outside the box before Phil Foden pegged back the Red Devils to a 1-1 draw and overtauned the game with his brace.
Erling Haaland wrapped up the win with the fourth goal to hand Manchester City all three points.
From an unbeaten six-match run in 2024, United have now suffered two straight Premier League defeats having lost to Fulham and now Manchester City.
They will hope to get back to winning ways when they take on Everton in their next game.
