Manchester United legend David De Gea has made a huge transfer decision as he closes on returning to action after his six-month deadlock.
De Gea turned down a ludicrous new contract proposal by Manchester United in June 2023 and has been a free agent since then.
Unlike other free agents, David De Gea has been swarmed with offers since he left Manchester United.
Bayern Munich wanted to sign him as a replacement for Inter-bound Yann Sommer. Inter Milan also wanted to sign him to replace Andre Onana in what would have been more like a swap deal.
The Man United legend was also set for a possible reunion with another club legend Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr with the Saudi outfit ready to sign him on a lucrative contract offer.
De Gea turned down Bayern Munich and Al-Nassr’s offer, refused to agree terms with Inter Milan, and was linked to a Premier League return.
Before the 2023 AFCON, the Sun reports United are considering a short-term deal for De Gea to replace AFCON-bound Andre Onana.
He was also linked to Newcastle United, who were reportedly considering a move for the player as a replacement for injured Nick Pope.
The Magpies were set for the move but faced the hurdle of stretching their wage book to meet the player’s wage demand, hence they had to settle for Martin Dubravka, Nick Pope’s backup goalkeeper.
According to the Sun, David De Gea is still interested in returning to action but has closed the door to a possible return to the Premier League.
The report adds sources close to the Spaniard have revealed he wants to sign for a La Liga club to stay in his native Spain.
Atletico Madrid, Real Sociedad, and Athletic Bilbao are some La Liga clubs that have shown interest in De Gea.
