La Liga giants Barcelona breezed pass Osasuna in the Spanish Super Cup semifinal to set up another El Clasico final with domestic rivals Real Madrid, LCSoccerHub Reports.
Barcelona wielded 68% of ball possession and recorded 20 attempts but could not find the back of the net in the first half.
Determined to crash the odds and book a spot in the final, the ‘Rojillos’ committed more bodies down their half, sitting back to soak up pressure and curtailed advances by Barcelona.
A largely frustrating first half saw Barcelona struggle to break the goal deadlock while keeping tabs on the opponents’ pacey counters.
Osasuna goalkeeper Sergio Herrera earned the plaudits as well making a series of great saves to deny Barcelona their first goal.
Robert Lewandowski was a constant threat for the Pamplona-based club. Lewandowski had a fiery strike saved by Herrera. Former Chelsea star Andreas Christensen also came close to giving Barcelona the lead but Hererra again produced a stunning save to keep Osasuna in the game.
At the break, it was till barren before Barcelona finally had their way early in the second half. Robert Lewandowski finally broke the goal deadlock, scoring in the 58th to give Barcelona the lead, thanks to a perfect assist by former Manchester City captain IIkay Gundogan.
Osasuna did little to mount a comeback after trailing by a lone goal but were still deadly when breaking out on the offensive. Ante Budimir blew wide their only chance of the game.
In stoppage time, fast-rising La Masia graduate Lamine Yamal deal the final blow to Osasuna comeback hopes, scoring to double the lead.
The game ended with Barcelona progressing to the Super Cup final where they will face domestic rivals Real Madrid on Monday, January 14, 2023.
