Liverpool have defeated Brentford to extend the lead at the Premier League top, LCSoccerHub Reports.
Darwin fired Liverpool into the lead in the 36th minute after the Reds broke on a dangerous counter following Brentford’s freekick, thanks to a good clearance by Virgil van Dijk.
Diogo Jota latched on the ball after Van Dijk’s clearance and located Darwin Nunez with a good header. Nunez only had Brentford goalkeeper Flekken to beat and he did it perfectly lifting an effort pass him to score the opening goal.
Darwin Nunez’s strike was enough to send the Reds into the lead at the break but it was another disappointing outing for the visitors with Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota subbed off prematurely due to injuries.
The Reds continued on the front foot in the restart and it was just a matter of time before they doubled the lead. Mohamed Salah, who returned from his four-week spell on the sidelines due to injury found, found Mac Allister with a terrific throughball. Allister beat Collins and then Flekken to double the lead for the Reds.
In the 68th minute, it was gameover for Brentford as a rickety defending saw the hosts punished with a third goal from Liverpool. Mohamed Salah held off his marker to fire the ball into the net pass Flekken after two Brentford players Collin and Mee missed Gakpo’s glancing header on a platter for Salah.
The host did get a late reprieve in the 75th minute to reduce the deficit. Ivan Toney smashed home a rebound from Kelleher to make it 3-1. However, clutch Liverpool ensured the snatch 3 points with a three-goal win margin.
Cody Gakpo made it 4-1 for the Reds in the 86th minute, scoring from close range after Ghoddos allowed Diaz’s pass to slip through his legs.
It ended 4-1 for the Reds, who wrapped up a big win at the Gtech Community Stadium to go five points clear of the Premier League top.
