Lisandro Martinez Injury

Manchester United came out strong against West Ham United at Old Trafford but suffered a devastating injury blow involving key defender Lisandro Martinez.

We reported earlier Lisandro Martinez appeared to have jarred his knee after a collision with West Ham’s Vladimir Coufal during a Premier League match on Sunday. He attempted to continue after finding his balance but was forced to be withdrawn due to niggling pains.

Recently returning from a lengthy injury layoff, Man United fans feared another nightmare injury that could consign the player to another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Man United manager Erik ten Hag was equally pessimistic of Lisandro Martinez’s chances given the nature of the injury. Speaking in post-match press conference, Erik ten Hag provided a worrying update on the injury situation saying ‘it seems bad’ with the club and the player disappointed.

However, ten Hag still left things under wraps as tests were yet to be done to examine the injury. Now, the long-awaited update on the injury situation has been confirmed.

In a report shared by Fabrizio Romano, Lisandro Martinez is expected to miss weeks of action for United as predicted but he will not miss the rest of the season.

As per the report, he will be out for as much as 4 weeks and will return after the international break in March. The report reads;

“It’s NOT an ACL injury, sources confirm.

Argentinian defender has a sprained collateral ligament — #MUFC hope to have Lisandro back after international break in March.

No surgery needed.”

Meanwhile, Manchester United are gradually getting over the crippling injury crisis that has rocked the team since the beginning of the season. Harry Maguire is back to the team with Mason Mount close to a return as well.

However, the club is still grappling with some names on the injury list with the likes of Anthony Martial, Sofyan Amrabat, and Tyrell Malacia still sidelined.

Manchester United made it two Premier League wins in a row with an emphatic 3-0 victory over West Ham United at Old Trafford. Rasmus Hojlund’s strike and Alejandro Garnacho’s brace sealed victory for the Red Devils. They will be hoping to continue in winning ways when they return to Premier League action against Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday, February 11.
