West Ham United have signed Kalvin Philips on loan from Manchester City, LCSoccerHub Reports.
The Hammers’ club statement confirming the signing of the English midfielder reads;
“West Ham United is delighted to confirm the signing of England midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan until the end of the 2023/24 season.”
Kalvin Philips is joining the David Moyes-led team on a short-term loan until the end of the season. As per Fabrizio Romano, West Ham United could opt to keep the player beyond his loan tenure with a permanent contract but will pay Manchester City £40million as contained in the terms of the loan agreement.
Kalvin Philips joined Manchester City in 2022 from Leeds United as one of the most promising and exciting young English midfielders.
Philips was instrumental in Leeds United’s promotion to the English elite division and was tipped for a heroic career following his trail with the second-tier club.
His move to Manchester City heralded a big milestone in his burgeoning career but it has been a sad tale of depleting fortunes for the youngster at Etihad.

The England international, who has won 31 caps with the Three Lions, managed just 12 Premier League appearances for Manchester City in his first season. This season, he has made only 4 appearances for the club. A star-studded midfield option for City featuring the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Jack Grealish, and Phil Foden saw Kalvin Philips drop down the pecking order.
Manchester City Manager Pep Guardiola admitted he was sorry for Kalvin Philips’ dwindling fortunes at the club but hailed the player for his professionalism throughout his ordeal.
Struggling to nail down a spot with the team, an exit solution was the most viable option for the 28-year-old. Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich were reportedly interested in a move for Philips before West Ham won the race to sign the player, reaching an agreement with City for a loan deal with a buy option.
LCSoccerHub gathers the Hammers have sealed the move for Philips, adding the Champions League and Premier League winner to David Moyes’ midfield options.
Kalvin Philips will hope to breathe life back into his career as he takes up a challenge with West Ham.
Speaking on his unveiling, the Yorkshire-born footballer said he is excited to join West Ham and is looking forward to being a part of the team.
“I am happy to be here and looking forward to be part of the club,” he said.
Philips won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup with Manchester City.
He will be expected to play a big role as West Ham challenge for Europa League trophy and European qualification in the Premier League.
