West Ham United have won the race to sign Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City on a loan-to-buy deal.
The midfielder, who has 12 caps for England, has been the subject of much speculation in the transfer window.
Phillips joined Manchester City from Leeds United for a whopping £42 million (Sky Sports) in the summer of 2022, but failed to nail down a regular spot in Pep Guardiola’s star-studded squad.
With the European Championship looming, the 28-year-old wanted more game time to impress England boss Gareth Southgate and attract interest from several clubs, including Newcastle, who were looking for a replacement for the banned Sandro Tonali.

But West Ham have beaten the competition and agreed a deal with Manchester City to take Phillips on loan until the end of the season, with an option to make the move permanent, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
The deal is not yet official, but the Hammers are expected to announce the signing of the Yorkshire-born player soon.
Phillips had a disappointing spell at the Etihad Stadium, where he only managed one assist in 31 appearances in all competitions.
He will hope to revive his career at West Ham, where he will reunite with his former Leeds manager David Moyes.
