2023 AFCON: Terem Moffi Replaces Victor Boniface, Who is He And What is His Style of Play? [WATCH]

Nice striker Terem Moffi is the new man in the Super Eagles’ attacking lineup for 2023 AFCON, LCSoccerHub Reports.

The 24-year-old former Zalgiris forward was called up by Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro to replace Victor Boniface.

We reported earlier Victor Boniface picked up a groin injury in the Super Eagles preparatory camp for AFCON, and has been ruled out of the tournament.

Moffi, a 12-cap Super Eagles forward was given the greenlight to replace Boniface as the Super Eagles prepare to kick off their AFCON campaign in a matter days.

The call-up of the Calabar-born striker has been met with mixed reactions among Nigeria fans with many doubting his capability to step into the shoes of Victor Boniface.

Who is Terem Moffi and what is his style of play?

Terem Moffi is a Nigerian professional footballer who is currently plying his trade with Ligue 1 side Nice.

The Calabar-born striker started his career in Lithuania, playing for Lithuania top division side Kauno Zalgiris in 2017.

After a two-year stint with Zalgiris in which he managed just a goal in 16 appearances, Moffi joined another Lithuanian side Riteriai.

At Riteriai, the Nigerian striker recorded a huge leap on his career. He scored 20 goals in 29 league appearances for the club. Moffi spent just a year with Riteriai before attracting attention of Belgian club Kortrijk. He joined Kortrijk in 2020, spent a season with the club, scoring 5 goals in 9 league appearances.

On October 2020, Moffi was contracted by French Ligue side Lorient. He spent three years with the club and was loaned to Nice in 2023.

The 24-yead-old improved on his loan spell with Nice, scoring 6 league goals in 16 appearances. Following the remarkable campaign with the French outfit, his loan deal was made permanent.

Moffi made his debut for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in 2021 and has won 12 caps with the team, scoring 4 times.

He was left out of Jose Peseiro’s 25-man squad for 2023 AFCON but has now been called up to replace injured Victor Boniface.

Moffi is known for his strength and stamina on the ball, including his incredible eye for goal. He is great on one-on-one situations and good link-up play.

He is also known for his incredible speed with the ball and quick transitions, including great dribbling skills that enables him steal his way through the toughest of backlines.

He has been tipped as a perfect replacement for Victor Boniface and will form a perfect striking partnership with Victor Osimhen for the Super Eagles.
